Iran Rejected 'Excessive' U.S. Demands in Islamabad Talks, Says Diplomat

Tehran - BORNA -Speaking at a legal conference, Gharibabadi noted that the U.S. delegation had threatened to walk away if their proposal was turned down, a scenario that ultimately played out when Washington's officials left the negotiations.

"There was no insistence or pleading from the Iranian delegation to continue the talks, exemplifying the Islamic Republic's principle of 'dignified diplomacy,'" Gharibabadi said.

Addressing developments concerning the Strait of Hormuz, the diplomat revealed that subsequent discussions were held in Oman after Tehran reimposed a blockade on the waterway more than two weeks ago following U.S. actions.

Gharibabadi stated that the opposing side insisted on keeping a southern transit corridor open for commercial vessels until the Iran-Oman talks concluded. However, the Iranian delegation rejected the proposal.

"We clearly declared that regardless of the negotiation outcomes, Iran's core policy from the onset of the conflict has been established, and such proposals are unacceptable," Gharibabadi added, confirming that Tehran continues to enforce its strict maritime blockade in the Strait of Hormuz.
