Kremlin Condemns Ukrainian Attack on Iranian Commercial Vessel in Caspian Sea
Tehran - BORNA - Speaking to reporters, Peskov stated: "These are aggressive actions; the Kiev regime is attacking various countries. Previously, the Kiev regime attacked the Federal Republic of Germany and blew up a critical energy infrastructure facility, and now it has attacked Iran, targeting an Iranian vessel."
According to Sputnik, the Kremlin spokesman emphasized that Iran is an independent nation fully capable of firmly defending its rights, warning that expanding the geographic scope of the Ukrainian conflict is highly undesirable.
The remarks follow statements by Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on social media platform X, where he asserted that the strike would not go unanswered. Araghchi stated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's forces attacked an Iranian merchant ship, killing a crew member—an act he described as a clear violation of the UN Charter, carried out at Israel's instigation to drag Europe into war.
Addressing broader regional dynamics, Peskov noted that Russia must anticipate further provocations from Kiev, particularly during Russia's upcoming autumn election campaigns.
Commenting on allegations made by Zelensky regarding Russian force recruitment, Peskov declined to comment directly, stating: "It is not up to Zelensky to speak about our plans." He added that Moscow remains confident in achieving its objectives and advancing its national sovereignty and economic independence.
Separately, Peskov confirmed a telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, noting that the discussion addressed the necessity of holding a referendum as soon as possible regarding Armenia's potential withdrawal from the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
