Two Executed Over Fatal January 2026 Attacks on Isfahan Security Forces
Tehran - BORNA - The executions of Abolfazl Sepahi Badjani and Amirhossein Safari Hosseinabadi were carried out following their convictions related to the January 8, 2026 incidents at Shahid Alikhani Square in Isfahan's Malekshahr district.
During the January 8 unrest, four law enforcement officers were brutally killed at the site. According to eyewitness accounts cited in the report, the severity of the violence caused widespread panic among onlookers and crowd members at the scene.
Judicial documents state that a group armed with firearms, edged weapons, axes, and Molotov cocktails engaged in extensive destruction of public property, torched buildings and a police station, and blocked main roadways. The perpetrators attacked unarmed police officers deployed to maintain order, burning them alive and desecrating their remains.
Several defendants faced charges in connection with the Isfahan violence. Safari and Sepahi were identified by the judiciary as direct participants in the killing and burning of the officers. Two other primary figures in the case, Erfan Esfandiari and Gol-Mohammad Mohammadi, were previously executed following judicial proceedings.
