Iran Roll Out New Screening Model for Three Most Common Cancers
Tehran - BORNA - Dr. Jafar Jandaghi, Director General of the Non-Communicable Diseases Management Center at the Ministry of Health, told local media that the revamped program is currently being piloted in Isfahan, Qom, and Zahedan medical sciences universities.
"The comprehensive screening program integrates prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation," Jandaghi stated, noting that the initiative bridges early detection with supportive and palliative care services.
Addressing why the program targets these specific malignancies, Jandaghi explained that population-wide cancer screenings require high cost-effectiveness and alignment with international guidelines.
"The methodology and cost-effectiveness for screening breast, colorectal, and cervical cancers are globally established, allowing for early detection through available diagnostics," he said, adding that expanding screenings to other cancers remains subject to expert evaluations and economic feasibility studies.
