Iran proposals included in Asia declaration at UN desertification conference
Tehran - BORNA - The first Iranian proposal stressed the need to strengthen international cooperation to control and manage drought and dust storms as transboundary and global phenomena.
The second recognized the interregional initiative to combat dust storms in West Asia and welcomed the designation of an “International Day of Rangelands and Pastoralists.”
The initiative was developed over the past year with the active participation of Iran and 10 other Asian countries affected by dust storms, with the aim of strengthening regional and interregional cooperation to address the phenomenon more effectively.
The organization said technical and operational proposals presented by the Iranian expert team were examined during intensive working-group meetings attended by representatives of more than 190 parties to the convention.
Parts of the Iranian proposals were also incorporated into other documents related to dust storms, drought and rangelands.
