Pezeshkian at SCO Summit: Iran to Reciprocate if US Honoring Commitments

Tehran - BORNA - Addressing the 26th Summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Pezeshkian criticized Washington for violating the terms of the June 18 agreement mediated by Pakistan and Qatar.

"Less than two weeks after the signing of the document by the US president, Washington began making excessive demands and violating its commitments, a trend that continues today," Pezeshkian said. "Naturally, Iran responded proportionally to these breaches. However, I state clearly: should the US return to its commitments under the memorandum, the Islamic Republic will immediately reciprocate."

Highlighting Iran's adherence to international legal frameworks, Pezeshkian noted that sustainable security cannot be achieved through unilateralism or coercion, but through mutual respect, state sovereignty, and non-interference.

During his address, the Iranian president condemned past aggression against Iran's sovereignty, praising the Iranian nation and Armed Forces for their resilience and resistance. He also expressed gratitude to the SCO and member states for condemning foreign aggression against Iran.

To strengthen multilateralism and deepen regional integration within the SCO, Pezeshkian outlined three economic initiatives proposed by Iran: expanding financial and banking cooperation through national currencies and establishing an SCO Bank; creating an SCO Export and Investment Insurance Union to support trade; and establishing an SCO Energy Consortium to streamline production, supply, transit, and consumption among member nations.

On security and parliamentary fronts, the Iranian president also proposed the creation of an SCO Strategic Security Studies Center to address emerging regional threats, as well as an SCO Parliamentary Assembly to enhance legislative collaboration.
