ETS formally halts TOEFL, GRE testing in Iran
Tehran - BORNA - ETS said in an official notice that testing for both exams in Iran has been halted until further notice, following recent changes to US Treasury Department regulations. The organization said registration fees for affected candidates will be refunded.
The decision follows a recent move by the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), which last week indefinitely suspended General License G — the authorization that had, since 2014, provided the legal basis for offering certain educational services to individuals in Iran, including standardized testing and services related to university admissions.
The suspension of that license had already cast uncertainty over the continued availability of some educational services and international exams in Iran, a situation that has now become concrete policy with ETS's formal announcement halting TOEFL and GRE testing in the country.
The suspension of both exams could pose a new challenge for Iranian students seeking admission to universities abroad that require TOEFL or GRE scores as part of their application process.
