Rosatom Chief: Putin and Pezeshkian Discussed Bushehr Nuclear Plant at SCO Summit
Tehran - BORNA - Likhachev told reporters on Wednesday that the situation at the plant remains calm and confirmed that Rosatom specialists are preparing to participate in scheduled maintenance for Bushehr's first unit in mid-September. The maintenance cycle involves replacing a portion of the fuel assemblies, and the necessary nuclear fuel has already been delivered to the site.
Following the outbreak of the conflict imposed by the US and Israel on February 28, Rosatom evacuated hundreds of Russian personnel from Bushehr. Likhachev noted that while a limited team of 25 experts has returned in recent weeks, a full-scale return of staff is contingent upon the finalization of a ceasefire between Iran and the US. However, he added that staffing levels could increase to around 100 personnel by the autumn if conditions progress favorably.
Despite sustaining multiple dangerous attacks during the conflict, the Bushehr facility has not experienced any radioactive contamination, according to official reports. Rosatom is currently managing plant operations while continuing the construction of two new units at the site.
