Iran warns South Korea against military involvement in Strait of Hormuz

Tehran - BORNA - A senior Iranian political-security official told Al Mayadeen that Seoul should not give in to pressure from Washington to cooperate with what he described as unlawful actions by the US military.

The official urged South Korea not to sacrifice its national interests and international standing for what he called the United States’ aggressive and destabilizing policies.

He said the main source of insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz was the aggression by the United States and the Israeli regime, adding that Seoul should not overlook that reality.

The Iranian official stressed that Tehran would consider any South Korean intervention against Iran in the strait a clear instance of direct military participation in the aggression and war against Iranian territory.

“Tehran will under no circumstances tolerate complicity in crimes against the Iranian nation and its rights,” the official said.

He added that stability and security could not be restored to the region as long as what he described as unlawful US interventions, the hostile blockade and economic warfare against Iran continued.

Earlier reports said South Korea had begun preliminary preparations to deploy a support vessel and military personnel to the Strait of Hormuz amid growing pressure from the US administration on its Asian allies to become involved in the war with Iran.
