Iran’s permanent mission to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has dismissed calls for the unconditional implementation of IAEA safeguards as "senseless" under current security conditions, urging the UN nuclear watchdog to first demand an end to US and Israeli military aggression against Iranian nuclear facilities.

Tehran - BORNA - Responding to remarks delivered by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi to the Board of Governors on Monday, the Iranian diplomatic mission stated on social media platform X that demanding full compliance ignores critical security realities on the ground.

The mission highlighted that the IAEA itself had initially decided to suspend safeguards activities and evacuate its inspectors "for safety reasons" following illegal military strikes carried out by the United States and the Israeli regime.

Tehran urged the agency to halt what it characterized as "unprofessional, non-objective, semi-technical, and politically motivated reporting."

The statement emphasized that Grossi must first compel the aggressors—the US and Israel—to cease all attacks and threats against peaceful, safeguards-covered nuclear infrastructure in order to establish the prerequisite conditions for safeguards implementation.

"As long as the IAEA and the UN Security Council fail to fulfill their assigned responsibilities, Iran reserves the right to protect its national interests independently," the mission declared.
