Iran's Foreign Ministry strongly condemns US attack on Iranian tankers
Tehran - BORNA - In a statement issued on Wednesday, the ministry said: "The US military aggression against Iranian commercial vessels in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman — as a continuation of US military aggression, naval blockade and economic warfare by the US regime against Iran — constitutes a flagrant violation of the UN Charter and international law."
"The aggressive actions by the US against Iranian commercial vessels are not only a dangerous escalation of tensions in the region, but also a clear threat to regional and international peace and security," the statement added.
"In response to the aggressive actions by the US against Iranian tankers, the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in accordance with the inherent right of self-defense, have struck US military bases and facilities located in Jordan — which continue to support US military aggression against Iran — as well as several violating US vessels," the ministry said.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran, emphasizing its firm resolve to defend its sovereignty and national interests against US aggressive actions, stresses that the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will not hesitate in exercising their inherent right of self-defense and will respond decisively and appropriately to any enemy military aggression," the statement continued.
The ministry also reiterated the responsibility of the UN Security Council and the Secretary-General to take immediate action regarding "flagrant violations of international peace and security" caused by "US aggressive actions against Iran."
