Iran tops Asian Youth Karate Championships in Jordan with 31 medals

Tehran - BORNA - Saudi Arabia placed second in the overall standings with 7 gold, 6 silver, and 9 bronze medals, while host nation Jordan finished third with 7 gold, 2 silver, and 16 bronze medals.

On the final day of the competition, Iran’s under-21 female athletes delivered a dominant performance, claiming four gold medals and one bronze. Ghazal Fathi secured gold in the -50kg category by defeating Saudi Arabia's Jude Mayajan 11-1 in the final. In the -55kg division, Fatima Jafarnejad earned gold with a 4-1 victory over Jordan's Balsam Al-Sa'eideh. Zahra Rezazadeh took the -61kg title after defeating Macau's Heng Lopoi 5-0, while Mahla Sedaghat won the +68kg category with a 9-0 victory over Kalyani Vishwakarma of India. Bushra Emani added a bronze medal in the women’s -68kg division by defeating Jordan's Shadi Sa'eid 5-2.

In the men's under-21 division, Abolfazl Tamadonzadeh claimed a silver medal in the -55kg category after falling 5-2 to Tajikistan's Makhshatalo Muminov in the final. Mehdi Choobakzan earned a bronze medal in the -67kg category with a narrow 4-3 win over Su An-huang of Chinese Taipei.

Other Iranian competitors in the men's under-21 category fell short of the podium. Vahab Shahmir (-84kg) and Taha Yousefi (+84kg) both reached third-place bouts but were defeated by opponents from Malaysia and Jordan, respectively. Meanwhile, Abolfazl Hamdamjoo (-60kg) and Erfan Khosh-Aghideh (-75kg) were eliminated in the earlier rounds of the tournament.
