Canceling Salalah meeting does not void Strait of Hormuz understanding with Oman: Baghaei

Tehran - BORNA - Speaking to the Islamic Republic of Iran News Network (IRINN), Baghaei announced that Iran and Oman have reached an understanding on defining a safe passage for maritime transit in the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that the cancellation of the planned meeting in Salalah does not affect the bilateral agreement.

Touching upon talks with the United States, the spokesperson underscored that Tehran's conditions formed the baseline for negotiations, but Washington violated them, adding: "Under such circumstances, one cannot speak of ending the war."

Baghaei also commented on the planned visit of Pakistan's Interior Minister to Tehran on Sunday, stating that the trip takes place within the framework of bilateral ties and building on the neighborhood policy initiated under the late President Ebrahim Raisi. He added that an economic minister may accompany the Pakistani delegation to review agreements previously reached at the presidential level.

Responding to whether Islamabad would deliver a specific initiative as a mediator between Tehran and Washington, Baghaei noted that while it is natural for Pakistan to continue its good offices, he had no information regarding any specific plan being exchanged at this stage.

Addressing the upcoming travel of Iranian diplomats to New York for the United Nations General Assembly, Baghaei noted that while the trip holds no personal appeal for Iranian diplomats, the world body remains an international platform and "a bastion that must not be abandoned."
