All three of Iran's MMA representatives were eliminated in the quarterfinals on the opening day of competition at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, losing to their respective opponents in Inaei Hall.

Tehran - BORNA - In the women's under-60kg traditional category, Arezoo Salimi faced Singapore's Hui Hon in her first bout and lost in two consecutive rounds to the 36-year-old fighter, exiting the competition.

In the men's under-60kg modern division, Amin Ghaedifar — who had received a first-round bye — met Kyrgyzstan's Dastan Kanibek for a place in the semifinals and lost 3-0, falling short of the final four.

Iran's final representative on Sunday, Afshin Salimi, competed in the under-65kg traditional category and lost to Kazakhstan's Adilov Sanzhar, a strong fighter. Salimi had earlier beaten his Bahraini opponent in his opening bout of the morning.

With all three fighters eliminated, Iran's MMA campaign ended on the first day of competition.

Mansour Nowrouzi served as head coach of the national team, with Yousef Behtari as team manager.
