Iran crushes Japan to reach Asian Games 3x3 basketball semifinals

Tehran - BORNA - Following an undefeated preliminary run, the Iranian squad produced a clinical display against the tournament hosts, holding them to just three points to comfortably secure a berth in the final four.

​Iran had advanced directly to the quarterfinal stage after topping their group with three consecutive victories, having defeated China 18-15, Hong Kong 16-11, and Malaysia 21-7.

​In their quarterfinal encounter against Japan, Mohammad Basir Momeni led Iran's offense with a game-high 8 points. Sarem Jafari and Mohammad Mehdi Rahimi contributed 5 points apiece, while Seyed Mohammad Ghaffari added 3 points to cap off the dominant performance.

​Coached by Mohammad Sistani, the Iranian squad will take on Qatar in the semifinals on Friday at 08:45 Tehran time (05:15 GMT).
