Tayebi smashes Asian Games shot put record, wins historic gold
Iranian track and field athlete Mohammadreza Tayebi captured the gold medal in the men’s shot put at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Saturday, setting a new Games record.
Tehran - BORNA - Competing in the final alongside fellow countryman Hassan Ajami, Tayebi secured the championship title with an exceptional throw of 20.81 meters, claiming Iran's first track and field gold medal of the ongoing edition.
Ajami finished in fifth place after recording a best effort of 19.37 meters.
Tayebi's triumph marks the second athletics medal for Iran at the Games, following Sadegh Samimi’s bronze medal finish in the men's discus throw.
