Araghchi confers with Turkish, Malaysian counterparts on Hormuz security, regional ties
Tehran - BORNA - During talks with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Araghchi stated that current regional tensions, particularly the disruption of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, are the direct consequence of military aggression initiated by the United States and the Israeli regime on February 28.
Commending Ankara’s good offices aimed at advancing regional peace and security, Araghchi pointed out that Washington’s breach of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding within three weeks of its conclusion derailed diplomatic momentum, generating repercussions for the entire region and the wider global economy.
The Iranian foreign minister underlined the necessity for all regional governments to restore stability through mutual trust and to reject compliance with unlawful and interventionist US measures, whether military or economic. He reaffirmed Iran’s readiness to cooperate closely with regional partners in this endeavor, while both ministers explored mechanisms to broaden Tehran-Ankara bilateral cooperation.
In a separate meeting on Saturday morning, Araghchi met with Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan, commending Kuala Lumpur's principled stance in condemning foreign military aggression and war crimes committed against Iran. He reiterated Tehran’s determination to defend its national sovereignty and security against hostile actions.
Araghchi detailed the consequences of the imposed conflict and US economic terrorism against the Iranian people, calling on developing nations to forge unified fronts to safeguard common interests against unilateralism and breaches of international law.
The top Iranian diplomat also briefed his Malaysian counterpart on the latest maritime developments in the Persian Gulf, including the bilateral understanding reached between Iran and Oman to establish safe navigation corridors in the Strait of Hormuz, reiterating that aggressive US actions remain the sole driver of prolonged instability in the waterway.
Both ministers emphasized the urgency of closer coordination among Muslim nations, specifically within the framework of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), to halt the Israeli regime’s ongoing genocide and war crimes in occupied Palestine and across the region, while pledging to sustain bilateral diplomatic consultations.
