Iran's foreign minister to meet mediators in New York on Monday

Tehran - BORNA - At the start of his trip to New York, Araghchi announced Iran's proposal to the American side for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, along with Iran's conditions for doing so.

Under the proposal, Tehran is ready to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as part of an agreement to end the war, in exchange for the release of Iranian funds and assets that have been illegally blocked.

The proposal was presented to the American side with the mediators who were in New York present. US President Donald Trump has said he has not accepted the proposal, but the exchange of messages and the mediators' efforts to bring the two sides back to the negotiating table, end the US naval blockade and reopen the Strait of Hormuz appear to be continuing in earnest.

It has been learned that Araghchi and the Iranian delegation will use Monday morning's meeting with the mediators to review the latest proposals and views on current conditions. No representative of the American side will attend the meeting.

Asked earlier about the American side's view of Iran's seven-point proposal, Araghchi said: "We saw the first reaction from the US president, but nothing has yet been conveyed to us by the mediators."

Pointing to the US president's contradictory statements, he said: "We are waiting for the mediators to convey definitive views to us, and we will decide based on those. In any case, our conditions are clear, and any move forward toward reopening the Strait of Hormuz is contingent on those conditions being met. We will not back down from them."
