IRGC letter to American people goes beyond media propaganda: Spokesman
Tehran - BORNA - Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday titled "IRGC's Letter to the American People," Brigadier General Hossein Mohebbi elaborated on the purpose of the message. "First and foremost, I must say this is a genuine letter and not a promotional act for media hype. It is a logical, compassionate, realistic, and detailed message," he stated.
Mohebbi explained that if the IRGC had sought mere publicity, it would have opted for short, immediate media impacts, such as a series of tweets. "But we didn't want to do that. We wanted to speak honestly and logically with the American people," he noted.
The spokesman highlighted that the IRGC felt the American public might not be fully acquainted with Iran's logic and positions, prompting the decision to create a platform for better understanding through this letter. "We face limitations in terms of having abundant media outlets operating within the US, whereas that country possesses hundreds of television and radio networks. Through this letter, we attempted to clarify the realities for the American people," Mohebbi added.
Questioning US Military Spending and Failures
General Mohebbi pointed to the massive military expenditures of the United States. "If the US goal of these expenses is to defend its own territory and the area where it lives, its defense is naturally secured, and it does not need 800 military bases around the world, nor does it require a $1,100 billion annual defense budget," he argued.
He compared this to the military budgets of other nations, noting that Iran's annual military budget is a fraction of America's, while countries like Afghanistan and Yemen have even smaller budgets.
Mohebbi raised a critical question: "Why did the US fail in its confrontation with Iran, and why are we currently victorious? This is not an exaggerated claim; it is a claim acknowledged by American experts themselves—both military and others—and they have voiced it repeatedly."
He cited recent US military engagements to underscore his point. "In the war in Afghanistan, after years, the US left behind $85 billion worth of weapons and equipment and fled. In its confrontation with Yemen, the US was forced to officially apologize and retreat in a short period," Mohebbi remarked.
"Why does a powerful and capable army, possessing so many weapons, military equipment, multiple bases, and an annual budget exceeding one trillion dollars, fail against countries whose military budgets are less than one percent of its own?" the general asked. He stated that the letter explains the reasons behind the US military's inability and failures, encouraging the American people to read it to understand the truth.
Addressing Domestic Crises in the US
The IRGC spokesman also touched upon the domestic situation in the United States, acknowledging its fertile lands, abundant water resources, valuable energy and minerals, and its ability to attract global elites.
However, he posed a fundamental question to American leaders: "With all this wealth, why do 39 million people in this country live below the poverty line? Why are there millions of homeless people in US cities, and why has sleeping in the streets and under bridges recently been banned for this vulnerable group?"
Mohebbi suggested that the welfare and peace of the American people are not a priority for US rulers. "It seems that profiteering for the officials themselves and the partners of the Zionist regime is defined as the main priority," he asserted.
He concluded by linking America's foreign failures and domestic crises, arguing that they are "two sides of the same coin" indicative of an inefficient management structure. "These deep contradictions require serious reflection by the American people and a careful analysis of why the establishment prioritizes personal interests over public welfare," Mohebbi stated.
