Rasul Medal shortlist finalized, winners to be announced in autumn
Tehran - BORNA - According to the Mustafa (pbuh) Prize Scientific Committee, the finalized list of nominees features four finalists in Engineering Sciences, four in Mathematics, four in Computer Science, eight in Life and Medical Science and Technology, two in Chemistry, and two in Physics.
The initial pool of nominees was highly competitive, comprising over 100,000 candidates across seven categories. This included 55,878 candidates in Life and Medical Science and Technology, 26,377 in Engineering Sciences, and 14,000 eligible individuals in the special category of Nanotechnology. Following extensive evaluations, the scientific committee narrowed down the candidates to the current shortlist.
The final winners are expected to be announced in late October, with the award ceremony scheduled to take place in November or December 2026. Hossein Naderi-Manesh, head of the Rasul Medal's scientific committee, emphasized the international scope of the event, stating that hosting the ceremony in different Islamic countries would help harness the immense capacities available across the Islamic world.
The Rasul Medal, formerly known as the Young Scientist Medal, is awarded to impactful works by scientists under the age of 40 (born in 1987 or later for the 2026 edition) residing in Islamic countries. Candidates cannot apply directly and must be nominated by third-party scientific or technological institutions, such as universities, research centers, or academies of sciences.
Winners in each category are awarded a medal, a certificate, and a $10,000 cash prize. Established as a symbol of scientific excellence, the medal aims to promote and recognize the technological breakthroughs of the younger generation. The award is funded through the endowments of prominent Mustafa (pbuh) Prize laureates—Professors Ugur Sahin, Omid Farrokhzad, and Vahab Mirrokni—who dedicated their cash prizes to this initiative. The inaugural edition of the medal was held in 2025 alongside the 6th Mustafa (pbuh) Prize.
