Mohajerani: Iran’s Request for Meeting with E3 and IAEA’s Witkoff in New York Rejected
Tehran - BORNA - Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of Wednesday’s cabinet meeting, referring to Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s report on his trip to New York, Mohajerani said: “Iran expressed readiness to meet with the three European states, the IAEA, and Witkoff. But this proposal was not accepted, and either they refused or did not show up to the meetings.”
She explained that discussions initially focused on Iran’s 60-percent enriched uranium reserves in relation to the snapback mechanism. Iran’s demand was the complete removal of the snapback clause, which the other side refused.
The Spokeswoman stated: “They first suggested a six-month suspension. This was particularly emphasized by Witkoff. The Foreign Minister stated that entering talks on such a basis could no longer be called negotiations. Still, considering national interests, Iran even proposed a 45-day suspension in the final night of discussions. But under heavy pressure from the Zionist lobby, this was ultimately rejected.”
Mohajerani stressed that claims about Iran’s reluctance to negotiate are false.
She added: “The Iranian diplomatic apparatus made every effort to eliminate or at least delay the snapback. The influence of Zionist lobbies on decisions in both the U.S. and Europe was obvious. Despite the inclination expressed by some Europeans, they changed course under pressure, and eventually we witnessed the reimposition of sanctions.”
