Russia Deploys Oreshnik Missile Systems in Belarus
The Belarusian Ministry of Defense has announced the formal deployment of Russia’s long-range Oreshnik missile systems at its military bases, marked by an official ceremony.

Tehran - BORNA - The Belarusian Ministry of Defense has announced the formal deployment of Russia’s long-range 'Oreshnik' missile systems at its military bases, marked by an official ceremony.

The Russian Ministry of Defense released a video showcasing the deployment, confirming that the advanced missile system has been placed on combat alert status, according to a report by the Clash Report news website.

Strategic Deterrence vs. Shift in Power

Addressing the deployment, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin stated that the delivery of the Oreshnik systems to Minsk does not inherently change the balance of power in Europe, as these weapons are specifically designed for strategic deterrence.

"This is a system designed for strategic deterrence," Khrenin emphasized. He further noted that the stationing of these systems on Belarusian soil is a direct response to "aggressive actions" against Minsk, while clarifying that Belarus has no intention of initiating war with any country.

A Message to NATO

Despite the official stance of deterrence, military experts suggest that the deployment of the Oreshnik underscores the Kremlin’s increasing reliance on the shadow of nuclear-capable weaponry. Analysts view this move as a calculated effort by Moscow to deter NATO members from providing long-range weapons to Ukraine that would allow for strikes deep into Russian territory.

The Oreshnik, a multi-warhead ballistic missile, represents one of Russia’s latest advancements in missile technology, and its presence in Belarus significantly shortens the potential response time for regional strategic operations.
