Iran’s Greco-Roman Dominance Continues as Farokhi and Hedayati Claim U23 World Gold
The dominance of Iranian Greco-Roman wrestling shows no signs of waning. Following team titles at the U17, U20, and Senior World Championships this year, Iran is poised for another strong performance at the 2025 U23 World Championships in Novi Sad, Serbia. On Tuesday, Iranian wrestlers Gholamreza Farokhi and Fardin Hedayati secured gold medals in the 87kg and 130kg categories, respectively.

Tehran - BORNA -Gholamreza Farokhi, a gold medalist at 82kg in the Senior World Championships in Zagreb, seamlessly moved up to the 87kg Olympic weight class for the U23 event. He demonstrated his superior par terre technique in the final, defeating Ivan Chmyr of Ukraine with a 9-0 technical superiority victory. This marks Farokhi’s second consecutive World Championship gold medal in the span of one month.

"I was able to win in two back-to-back tough events at the Senior and U23 World Championships and bring home two gold medals," Farokhi commented after his victory. "These were high-level competitions. When you move up a weight class, the opponents are definitely stronger and tougher. This was a good experience, and it gave me a better sense of how I can perform at 87 kg—an Olympic weight class.”

Hedayati Defends His U23 World Title
