Pakistani Taliban Claims Responsibility for Deadly Bombing in Islamabad
Tehran - BORNA - Agence France-Presse (AFP) announced that Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for today's suicide bombing outside a court in Islamabad. The deadly blast, which occurred in the early morning hours outside the capital's judicial complex, resulted in the deaths of at least 12 people and injuries to more than 20.
Earlier, Pakistani media outlets, including 'Neo News' and 'Samaa' networks, had reported that dozens of people were killed and injured following the explosion. Two Pakistani security officials told The Associated Press that the explosion was carried out by a car bomb.
Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan's Interior Minister, confirmed that today's suicide attack killed 12 people and said the attacker intended to enter the court premises but, after failing, targeted a police vehicle. He had stated that the act was carried out "by Indian-backed elements and Afghan Taliban representatives linked to Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan," although investigations are still ongoing.
Today's explosion in Islamabad comes just one day after the attack on the military college in Pakistan's Wana region and another explosion at the Red Fort in New Delhi, intensifying concerns about escalating security tensions in the region.
Prior to the official claim of responsibility for the Islamabad attack by TTP, the group had denied involvement in both the Islamabad and Wana attacks in statements shared with the American media outlet CBS News. However, Pakistani security analysts had still speculated that the group was behind both attacks.
