Iran's Intelligence Ministry demands French accountability over diplomat interference
Tehran - BORNA - The Ministry’s Public Relations Office released the statement detailing how intelligence personnel intercepted two French diplomats at a secret meeting location while executing a judicial arrest warrant for two suspects involved in a major foreign influence and infiltration case.
The ministry stated that upon verifying the identities of the two diplomats—who possessed an extensive record of domestic legal violations and breach of diplomatic duties—the matter was reported to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the diplomats were handed over to the French ambassador to Tehran accompanied by diplomatic police.
The statement noted that while Iranian intelligence agencies were reviewing seized documents and interrogating suspects without making the matter public, French authorities launched a media campaign aimed at deflecting blame and concealing clear violations.
Preliminary investigations into the seized documents revealed a broad project designed to establish secret networks inside and outside Iran, gather intelligence, and lay the groundwork for French operations against Iran's independence, the statement added.
The Ministry emphasized that discovered project contracts bore the signature of France's former ambassador to Iran, demanding that Paris explain the illegal scheme.
The Ministry warned that such blatant interference in Iran's internal affairs—particularly during wartime—constitutes a grave violation of domestic law and diplomatic frameworks, emphasizing that Tehran will not permit unlawful interference by diplomatic guests and will act forcefully against perpetrators in the event of repetition.
The statement also pointed out the hypocrisy of Paris pursuing anti-national security operations against Iran, noting that France passed its own law on "Preventing Foreign Interference" in 2024 based on a Senate commission report and is fully aware of non-interference frameworks.
The Ministry advised the French government to focus its resources on resolving domestic socio-economic issues rather than wasting taxpayer funds on illegal interference in independent nations.
Investigations into the case remain ongoing, with further details to be released in due course, the statement concluded.
