Irish Politician Mick Wallace: Ukraine War is a NATO Proxy Conflict; Europe Lacks Independent Policy
An Irish politician and former Member of the European Parliament sharply criticized the state of Europe and the role of the United States regarding international law, stating that the EU has 'surrendered' its independent foreign policy.

Tehran - ISNA - In recent comments, Mick Wallace, an Irish politician and former Member of the European Parliament, expressed strong criticism of the current geopolitical stance of the European Union, particularly its subservience to US interests.

Responding to a query about how governments react to the US violation of international laws, Wallace stated: "In my opinion, fundamental changes have occurred. The European Union has fractured, and Europeans have surrendered, and now we have no independent foreign policy. In the past, there were always limits on US hegemony and power... But now, those limitations no longer exist. In 2002 and 2003, the Americans tried hard to convince Europeans to support them in the Iraq War, but now they don't even ask for their opinion; the Europeans remain silent."

The EU and the Military-Industrial Complex

The former MEP strongly criticized European policies regarding Russia and the purchase of what he termed "very expensive gas." He asserted: "It is said that Europe is forced to re-arm and buy more weapons because of Russia. This is nonsense. Russia is not the problem; the problem is that the European Union is now under the influence of the military-industrial complex. The Americans want Europeans to increase their military capabilities, and this whole affair was about provoking Russia into war; this war is practically a US-NATO proxy war, and it has had a huge impact on Europe, as well as the situation in Gaza."

Failure to Act on Israeli Aggression

Wallace highlighted Europe's failure to take a stand against the aggression in Gaza: "None of the EU members cut trade relations during the Israeli genocide. None of them. This is truly astonishing, and frankly, shameful."

Europe Must Regain Logic and Independence

Wallace argued that Europe's current posture is irrational and self-destructive. He urged the bloc to regain its autonomy: "Europe must start thinking for itself again and act in its own interests. They are now passive and isolated and are damaging their own economies. There is no logic in what they are doing. They cut off cheap Russian gas and are now forced to buy expensive American energy. It is insanity."

Addressing future prospects, Wallace acknowledged the public's desire for change: "We hope things change in Europe. The people of Europe want something different; the current European politicians do not represent them, and many protests are happening across Europe."
