Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council Declares 90-Day State of Emergency Following Saudi Strike on UAE-Linked Vessel
Rashad al-Alimi, the head of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), officially declared a 90-day nationwide state of emergency on Tuesday. The move follows a Saudi airstrike targeting foreign military support at the port of Al-Mukalla in Hadhramaut province, aimed at halting UAE-backed separatist advancements.

Tehran - BORNA - Al-Alimi expressed deep regret over the "expanding role of the United Arab Emirates" in supporting the "rebellion" of the Southern Transitional Council (STC). He stated that the recent coalition statement provided clear evidence of UAE intervention aimed at escalating military tensions, undermining state authority, and threatening the unity and territorial integrity of Yemen.

Condemning the 'Southern Rebellion'

"Yemen cannot tolerate the opening of new fronts," Al-Alimi said, praising Saudi Arabia's role in attempting to de-escalate the situation. He characterized the recent movements of military units affiliated with the UAE-backed STC as an "outright rebellion."

The PLC head emphasized that while the "Southern Issue" is a just and central cause for Yemen, he strongly opposes its exploitation for specific political agendas. "No one is authorized to act unilaterally on behalf of our people in the south. We have issued orders to prevent any security movements orchestrated from outside the country," Al-Alimi asserted.

Call for Unconditional Withdrawal

According to Al-Arabi TV, Al-Alimi reaffirmed his commitment to protecting citizens and maintaining unity in military decision-making. He issued a firm demand to the UAE-affiliated Southern Transitional Council to "immediately and unconditionally withdraw its forces from the provinces of Hadhramaut and Al-Mahrah."

Al-Alimi noted that he had previously ordered the formation of a consultative committee to contain the tensions in the south, but the proposal was rejected by the STC.

'Yemeni Blood is a Red Line'

Warning that the escalation in southern Yemen only worsens the ongoing humanitarian crisis, the PLC head concluded: "Yemeni blood is a red line. We will never compromise or tolerate its shedding."

The declaration of the 90-day state of emergency underscores the severe friction within the Saudi-led coalition as Riyadh and Abu Dhabi’s interests increasingly diverge on the ground in southern Yemen.
