Iran’s Sports Minister Urges IOC President to Take Responsible Stance on Attacks Against Iran
Tehran - BORNA - According to the Ministry of Sports and Youth’s news portal, the letter was sent to the IOC President addressing these developments.
The letter reads as follows:
H. E. Ms. Kirsty Coventry
President
International Olympic Committee (IOC)
Your Excellency,
I would like to convey the deep concern of the Iranian sports community regarding the tragic recent events resulting from the terrorist acts and the brutal attacks carried out by the USA and the Israeli Regime on the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran which occurred in clear violation of legal and international commitments amidst a diplomatic path, leading to the killing of many Iranian citizens, including children, adolescents, young athletes, and damage to the country's sports infrastructures.
Among these painful events, official reports indicate that 165 innocent school children lost their lives following the direct firing of the USA army on a primary school (Shajareh Tayebeh-Minab). Additionally, 20 teenage girls who were practicing volleyball in a sports gymnasium were slaughtered as the result of these attacks. These shocking events have deeply affected and saddened not only Iranian society but also the broader sports community.
In addition to these irreparable human losses, a number of sports equipment and venues have been targeted and severely damaged, infringing on the fundamental right of athletes to access a safe environment for their sports activities and healthy growth.
The Olympic Charter clearly emphasizes values such as peace, human dignity, mutual respect, and supporting youth through sports. Within this framework, the Iranian sports community expects the International Olympic Committee, as the guardian and enforcer of the Olympic Charter to adopt a responsible, humane, and principled position towards such events and by condemning terrorist acts against the people of Iran by USA and Israeli Regime, to utilize all its ethical and institutional capacities to protect the fundamental values of sport and prevent the recurrence of such tragedies.
We believe that the global Olympic Movement can always transcend geographical boundaries and defend peace, humanity, and the security of athletes. We are confident that the voices of the innocent children and adolescents who have become victims of these terrorist attacks will resonate in the conscience of the large Olympic family.
Respectfully,
Ahmad Donyamali
