New Wave of Criticism in U.S. Against Trump’s Policies Toward Iran
The reckless rhetoric of U.S. President Donald Trump against Iran has fueled domestic outrage in the country, drawing protests from many prominent American figures.

Tehran - BORNA -  Trump had previously posted threats on the "Truth Social" network regarding attacks on Iranian infrastructure and power plants.

In response, Johnny Olszewski, U.S. Representative from Maryland, wrote in a message on the "X" social network: "Easter is a day for peace and reflection. President Trump’s rhetoric on any day—especially today—is unacceptable. The President's words do not reflect the teachings and values of Christ and should be rejected by all followers of Christianity."

Melanie Stansbury, U.S. Representative from New Mexico, alluded to Trump's failure in the war with Iran in a message, stating: "The Emperor has no clothes. It is time to invoke the 25th Amendment. Congress and the Cabinet must act."

The 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution allows the Vice President to assume the President's role if the President is unable to discharge their duties (due to physical or mental issues).

On the other hand, Jeff Merkley, U.S. Senator from Oregon, remarked on the matter: "Trump’s Easter threat—filled with profanity—to attack Iranian civilian infrastructure like power plants and bridges, are the words of a desperate and immoral individual. Many experts believe such attacks could be considered war crimes under international law."

He continued: "To our military commanders: Remember this—you are legally obligated to refuse to carry out orders that lead to war crimes."

Bob Duff, a U.S. Senator from Connecticut, stated in a message: "Today’s (Sunday) post on Truth Social by the individual sitting in the Oval Office shows instability and an improper temperament, putting all Americans at risk."

he Senator emphasized: "It is time for Republicans to stand with us and either demand the invocation of the 25th Amendment or bring forward a vote based on Article II, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution."

According to Article II, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution, the President, Vice President, and all civil officers of the United States shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.

Ami Bera, a member of the U.S. Congress, commented on Trump’s remarks: "This behavior from the President of the United States is weak and unpredictable. My Republican colleagues know this. It is time to show courage and join us to restrain his ability to advance this illegal war."

Elissa Slotkin, a Senator from Michigan, said in this regard: "President Trump’s latest threats on Truth Social, if implemented, would violate the laws of armed conflict under the Geneva Conventions and Department of Defense guidelines. The indiscriminate killing of civilians in Iran and the destruction of civilian infrastructure like bridges and power plants is an irresponsible and wrong act."

She continued: "Furthermore, it is our military forces who are put at legal and physical risk, and when the dust settles, it is our military personnel—not Trump or Hegseth—who must live with the consequences."

The Senator added: "President Trump has entered us into another complex war in the Middle East. His decisions make us less secure abroad, increase prices, and impose human and financial costs on America. He must negotiate to end this war, open the Strait of Hormuz, and bring our troops home."

Kenneth Roth, an American lawyer and human rights activist, wrote in a message on the X social network: "Trump’s speech about Iran is perhaps the clearest sign to date that the leader of the world's most powerful superpower is an intellectually completely disturbed individual whose ability to carry out this responsibility—which was not very apparent from the start—seems to be rapidly declining."
