Pakistan MOFA spox announces: Joint 5-point China-Pakistan initiative to end regional war
Tehran - BORNA - Tahir Hussain Andrabi, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, announced on Friday the upcoming official visit of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to China, emphasizing that the trip is framed within a joint initiative to de-escalate regional and international tensions.
Pointing to Pakistan's active role in mediation efforts, Andrabi stated: "China supports our mediation efforts, and in this regard, has jointly proposed a five-point peace initiative with us."
He added that during the visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will discuss this joint initiative with senior Chinese officials with the objective of putting an end to the war and instability.
According to the Pakistani Foreign Ministry, the visit is scheduled to take place from May 23 to 26 (Khordad 2 to 5), with an intensive agenda prepared for the duration of the trip.
Recalling the long-standing and robust ties between the two nations, the spokesperson referred to China as a strategic partner that has consistently stood by Islamabad during challenging times. He described the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries as an opportunity to reaffirm their "all-weather strategic cooperative partnership."
In Beijing, Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang to discuss a diverse range of issues, including regional peace and security, as well as the expansion of cooperation in agriculture, trade, information technology, and science. Furthermore, he will chair a joint business conference featuring entrepreneurs from both nations.
The Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesperson went on to express concern over recent reports regarding drone incidents in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. He characterized the targeting of nuclear facilities as a flagrant violation of international law and expressed hope that such incidents would not recur in the future.
