Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi says Washington’s failure to honor its commitments under the Islamabad understanding is the primary cause of current regional tensions, reaffirming Tehran’s resolve to defend its national interests.

Tehran - BORNA - Araghchi made the remarks during a meeting with Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov on Friday evening, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers in Kyrgyzstan.

During the meeting, the two foreign ministers discussed expanding bilateral relations across various sectors, with a strong focus on trade and economic cooperation.

Araghchi and Saidov also reviewed pressing regional and international developments, underscoring the need to deepen bilateral coordination within international bodies and multilateral frameworks, particularly the SCO.

Outlining the situation in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, the Iranian foreign minister highlighted Iran's responsible conduct during the negotiations that led to the Islamabad agreement. He identified the U.S. breach of contract and its violation of the conflict-termination terms as the main driver behind the current dangerous environment, reiterating Iran's determination to safeguard its rights and legitimate interests.
