China Unveils New Intercontinental Nuclear Missile Capable of Covering the Entire Globe
Tehran - BORNA - According to Global Times, the liquid-fueled DF-5C strategic missile was showcased on Wednesday during a military parade marking the 80th anniversary of China’s victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the global war against fascism.
Professor Yang Chengjun, an expert in missile technology and nuclear disarmament, told Global Times that the DF-5C benefits from enhanced penetration capabilities and high precision. He described the missile as “always ready for defense, capable of effectively deterring aggression, preventing wars through strength, and contributing to global stability.”
Yang explained that the DF-5C incorporates a new structure, carried in three sections by separate vehicles, which allows for shorter launch preparation and quicker response compared to earlier models. Its extended range enables it to cover the entire globe, providing China with the means to counter any real nuclear threat worldwide. The missile also offers versatility in launch methods, drawing from previous DF-series developments. As a ballistic missile capable of global reach, its flight speed is reported to reach hypersonic levels measured in tens of Mach, leaving current missile defense systems with little time to respond.
In addition, the DF-5C can be equipped with multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRVs), each carrying nuclear or conventional warheads, or decoys, greatly complicating interception efforts. Its accuracy is also significantly enhanced through a combination of inertial guidance, stellar navigation, and China’s independently developed Beidou satellite system, enabling high precision even at maximum range.
Global Times emphasized that strategic missiles remain essential to the security of major powers. According to Yang, the unveiling of the DF-5C carries symbolic and practical importance: reminding the Chinese people not to forget their history, underlining the reality of current security threats, and showcasing that China’s military capabilities are continuously evolving to deter external challenges.
