Egyptian FM, U.S. Envoy Discuss Iran Nuclear Issue and Gaza Crisis
Tehran - BORNA - During their conversation, Abdelatty pointed to the severe humanitarian consequences of Israel’s military operations in Gaza and underlined the urgent need for those operations to cease. He warned of the grave dangers posed by Israeli plans to displace Palestinians, saying these plans are a main cause of instability and directly weaken regional security.
Abdelatty said that under no circumstances can the displacement of Palestinians from their homeland be tolerated, insisting that such actions harm and threaten the core of the issue of Palestine. He added that Egypt stands firmly against these plans—regardless of pretext or justification—and affirmed that Palestinians must remain on their land.
He also emphasized the necessity of establishing a ceasefire that meaningfully reduces tension, ensuring humanitarian aid reaches Gaza’s beleaguered population, and restoring stability to the region given the catastrophic conditions in the Gaza Strip.
On the nuclear front, the two also discussed recent diplomatic developments, especially the September 9 agreement in Cairo between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), marking the resumption of cooperation.
Abdelatty briefed Witkoff on Egypt’s latest interactions with Tehran, including efforts aimed at delaying the activation of the U.N. “snapback” mechanism and restarting U.S.-Iran talks.
