Iranian Diplomat: European Snapback Activation “Illegal and Provocative”
Hossein Noshabadi, Director General for Parliamentary Affairs at Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and former member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Parliament, strongly condemned the recent move by the E3 — the UK, Germany, and France — to trigger the so-called snapback mechanism against Iran. He described the action as “illegal, provocative, and in clear violation of international obligations,” stressing that the three European states must be held accountable for its consequences.

Tehran - BORNA - Speaking to Borna News Agency, Noshabadi said the move came “in complete disregard of the recent constructive agreement reached between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),” an accord warmly welcomed by the international community. “By misusing the snapback tool, the Europeans are seeking to restore UN Security Council sanctions,” he warned, “a step that would pave the way for Washington’s unjust pressures and embolden new Israeli adventures in the region.”

The senior diplomat underlined that the Iran-IAEA understanding was designed “in good faith and within Iran’s domestic and international commitments” to expand constructive cooperation. “It was a creative, preventive initiative meant to avert future crises,” he noted. “Yet the destructive actions of these countries now threaten regional peace and security and seriously weaken the non-proliferation regime.”

Noshabadi stressed that Iran has consistently sought to keep the diplomatic track open to safeguard regional and global security. “However,” he said, “some European governments, despite claiming independence, have distorted realities, put forward baseless allegations, and exerted pressure on non-permanent UNSC members. Their unjustified actions undermine the Council’s credibility, damage diplomacy, and weaken the global non-proliferation architecture.”

Responsibility on the E3

He called on the international community to reject the European move outright and deny it any legitimacy. “The responsibility for the consequences of abusing the snapback mechanism lies squarely with its initiators and supporters,” he declared.

Referring to the UN Charter, Noshabadi reminded that the Charter “explicitly prohibits any threat or use of force” and that “no pretext can justify premeditated attacks against safeguarded nuclear facilities.”

The Iranian official condemned what he described as “brutal attacks” by the United States and Israel on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, calling them blatant violations of IAEA resolutions and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). “Regrettably,” he added, “these aggressions have been met with silence from both the UN Security Council and the IAEA.”

“This silence has normalized such unlawful behavior,” Noshabadi warned, “and even encouraged repetition of these crimes.”

He concluded by urging the world community to hold the U.S. and Israel accountable. “The assaults on Iran’s safeguarded facilities represent a gross violation of Iran’s legitimate rights and a blatant disregard for the international legal order. Such criminal acts must be condemned by international organizations, and those responsible must be punished.”
