Iran warns Trump against intervention as top MP says US forces ‘legitimate targets’
Iran on Friday warned US President Donald Trump against interfering in its internal affairs, with a Foreign Ministry spokesman rejecting any foreign meddling and a senior lawmaker saying US forces in the region would become “legitimate targets” in the event of American adventurism.

Tehran - BORNA - "Iranians will not allow any foreign interference in their dialogue and interaction with one another aimed to solve problems,” Esmaeil Baghaei said in a post on his X account on Friday.

His comments came after Trump threatened Iran in a social media post, claiming the United States was prepared for military action against Iran in support of sporadic protests over the decline of the rial, Iran's currency, to a record low.

“If Iran shots (sic) and violently kills peaceful protesters, which is their custom, the United States of America will come to their rescue. We are locked and loaded and ready to go,” Trump said.

Baghaei said a review of the long record of actions taken by American politicians amid claims of “saving the people of Iran” will show the “depth of the US 'empathy' with the Iranian nation."

He added that the US played a role in the 1953 military coup that overthrew Iran’s then-Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh, shot down Iran Air Flight 655 over the Persian Gulf in 1988 which killed civilians and fully supported then-Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein during the eight-year war imposed on Iran in 1980s.

The United States was also complicit in the Israeli regime’s assassinations of Iranians and attacks on Iran’s infrastructure during the 12-day war in June 2025 and imposed sanctions on Iran that are labeled the toughest in history, the spokesman emphasized.

He said the US is currently posing a threat to attack Iran under the guise of compassion for Iranians in blatant violation of the most important principle of international law.

American centers ‘legitimate targets’: Qalibaf

Separately, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf also warned Washington against interference.

“The cry of the devil rose because the armed field agents of foreign intelligence services failed in their attempt to turn the legitimate protests of shopkeepers into violent, armed urban battles—defeated by the historical awareness of the Iranian nation,” Qalibaf said in a post on X.

“Throughout history, the people of Iran have disappointed enemies far more experienced than these; we never equate the ranks of genuine protesters with foreign mercenaries, and we embrace our dear children,” he added.

Qalibaf said that Trump’s remarks amounted to an official admission of hostile intent, warning that “the disrespectful President of the United States should know that with this official admission, all American centers and forces across the region become legitimate targets for us in response to any possible adventurism.”

“Iranians have always stood united and determined to act against any invading enemy,” he said.

Earlier on Friday, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani warned Trump that any American interference in Iran’s internal affairs would destroy US interests in the region.

“Trump should know that US interference in this internal matter would mean destabilizing the entire region and destroying America’s interests,” he said.

Protests erupted Sunday after shopkeepers in Tehran temporarily closed their businesses to protest the sharp fall of the national currency, which plunged to record lows against the US dollar.

Iranian officials have acknowledged the economic pressure facing the public and said peaceful protests are legitimate. At the same time, they have warned that foreign-backed elements are seeking to exploit the situation and fuel violence.
