Pezeshkian: Ending the War Requires Halting Aggression and Guarantees Against Its Recurrence
The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran stated that ending the war and conflict in the region requires the immediate cessation of aggression by the United States and the Israeli regime, as well as guarantees that such aggressions will not be repeated in the future.

Tehran - BORNA - Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, on March 21, 2026, held a telephone conversation with Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, during which the two sides discussed and exchanged views on bilateral relations, as well as regional and international developments in light of the continued military aggression by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran.

The President, elaborating on the dimensions of the aggression, the unlawful attacks, and the crimes committed by the United States and the Israeli regime, stated that Iran did not initiate the war, and that the aggressor enemy, without any reason, logic, or legal basis, launched a military attack against Iran during nuclear negotiations, resulting in the martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, senior military commanders, and a number of defenseless citizens, including innocent schoolchildren, and targeting the country’s public facilities.

Pezeshkian added that the United States targeted the “Shajareh Tayyebeh” elementary school in Minab from bases located in neighboring countries hosting US military bases, which resulted in the مظلومانه martyrdom of 168 innocent schoolchildren.

The President, rejecting the claims of the US President that the military aggression against Iran was aimed at preventing the country from developing a nuclear bomb, emphasized that in various meetings attended by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, the martyred Leader had strongly opposed nuclear weapons and had issued the necessary administrative and religious directives prohibiting any move toward such weapons.

Pezeshkian also rejected another US claim that Iran is the “source of unrest and tension” in the region, stressing that it is Israel that attacks and carries out assassinations in Lebanon, Gaza, Iran, Iraq, Qatar, and wherever it chooses, and justifies its actions by claiming to maintain security and peace, whereas in reality these aggressions set the region ablaze.

The President recalled Iran’s repeated readiness, in both telephone and in-person discussions with world leaders, including on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, to allow verification and accept monitoring of its peaceful nuclear activities, and strongly condemned the completely inhumane and immoral actions of the American and Israeli aggressors against Iran.

Pezeshkian further emphasized that in order to establish peace and stability in the West Asia region, a security structure composed of regional countries should be formed so that peace and security are ensured by the countries of the region themselves, without foreign interference.

The President reiterated that ending the war and conflict in the region requires the immediate cessation of aggression by the United States and the Israeli regime and guarantees against its recurrence.

Referring to India’s rotating presidency of BRICS, Pezeshkian called for the group to play an independent role in stopping aggression against Iran and safeguarding regional and international stability and security.

For his part, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the President, the government, and the people of Iran on Eid al-Fitr and Nowruz, wishing the Iranian nation a year filled with peace and tranquility.

Expressing his country’s deep concern over the escalation of tensions and conflict in West Asia, the Indian Prime Minister strongly condemned any attacks on energy infrastructure in the region, warning that such actions pose a serious threat to global food and energy security as well as agricultural exports worldwide. He also called for ensuring the security of the Strait of Hormuz and freedom of navigation in the Persian Gulf.

In this regard, Modi, referring to his contacts and discussions with various world leaders, emphasized that choosing the path of war benefits no one, and that all parties must move toward peace as soon as possible.

The President of Iran and the Prime Minister of India also exchanged views on a number of issues of mutual interest.
