Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Mohsen Rezaei stated during a meeting with China's Ambassador to Tehran that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until all of Iran’s conditions are fully satisfied.

Tehran - BORNA - Rezaei met with Chinese Ambassador to Iran Cong Peiwu, describing Iran-China relations over the past few decades as constructive and stable. He highlighted the strategic agreement between the two nations and noted that joint membership in key pacts such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS presents a significant opportunity for future development.

Rezaei praised China’s stance in refraining from supporting illegal anti-Iran resolutions at the UN Security Council as a positive step.

Emphasizing that the United States is the primary cause of insecurity in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Sea of Oman, Rezaei said: "The US has placed the entire region at risk by imposing an illegal war on Iran. Until the United States alters its behavior, the Strait of Hormuz will not be reopened."

He specified that the US must end the war and release Iran's frozen assets, adding that further conditions have been communicated to the American side through intermediaries. Rezaei also emphasized that war across the entire region, including in Lebanon and Gaza, must come to an end.

Clarifying maritime transit arrangements, the SNSC Secretary noted that a potential agreement between Iran and Oman regarding transit routes remains entirely separate from the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

Later on Tuesday, Rezaei reiterated these points in a post on X, writing: "Iran's message is clear: The Strait of Hormuz will not reopen until the US ends the war and blockade, unfreezes Iran's blocked assets, and stops the war across the region, including in Lebanon and Gaza. Until all conditions are met, the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed."

For his part, Chinese Ambassador Cong Peiwu congratulated Mohsen Rezaei on his appointment as SNSC Secretary and reaffirmed Beijing's firm support for Iran's national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

"China and Iran are strategic partners, and Beijing strongly emphasizes this partnership," Cong said, expressing opposition to military attacks by the US and Israel against Iran. He noted that Chinese President Xi Jinping has presented a four-point initiative to foster peace and stability in West Asia, adding that Beijing wishes to expand cooperation with Tehran.

Highlighting Iran's strategic foresight, the Chinese envoy remarked that Iran possesses both power and wisdom, enabling it to successfully manage current circumstances. He concluded by reiterating that China consistently welcomes the strengthening of ties across West Asia and among Persian Gulf states.
