Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said the region will witness a new order as he left Tehran for Baghdad at the head of a parliamentary delegation for talks with senior Iraqi officials.

Tehran - BORNA -Speaking Wednesday before departing for Iraq, Ghalibaf said the visit was taking place at the invitation of the speaker of the Iraqi Parliament and would focus on expanding bilateral relations.

“Today, we are traveling to Baghdad with a parliamentary delegation at the invitation of the speaker of the Iraqi Parliament,” Ghalibaf said.

He said the two sides would discuss major issues concerning the development of economic, political, cultural, social and security relations between Iran and Iraq.

Ghalibaf said the delegation was also scheduled to meet senior Iraqi officials, including the country’s president, as well as a number of economic and cultural figures.

He described the visit as particularly significant because it comes after what he called the Islamic Republic’s victory in the imposed Ramadan war.

“Relations between Baghdad and Tehran are highly important and fundamental to regional developments, and there is no doubt that we will witness a new order in the region in the future,” Ghalibaf said.

The parliament speaker also highlighted what he described as the effective roles played by Iran and Iraq in regional affairs, saying the visit could help lay the groundwork for taking advantage of new opportunities facing the two countries.

Ghalibaf said he would also travel to Karbala to attend a ceremony marking the 40th day since the burial of Iran’s martyred Leader.

“I will attend this ceremony on behalf of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and convey his greetings, message and gratitude to the great Iraqi nation, which showed extraordinary respect during the funeral of the martyred Leader of the Revolution,” he said.

Ghalibaf expressed hope that the trip would help expand bilateral cooperation across different sectors and further strengthen the longstanding ties between the two neighboring countries.

Ahead of the visit, Ghalibaf also posted a message in Arabic on X, describing the bond between the Iranian and Iraqi nations as “historic and unbreakable.”

“Our neighborly relationship is founded on brotherhood during the most difficult days, resistance against foreign interference and belief in the shared destiny of the two countries, and this instructive past will guide the future,” he wrote.

“During this visit, we will take major and practical steps toward strengthening the two countries’ shared and indigenous security and promoting the welfare of both nations,” Ghalibaf added.
