Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said US President Donald Trump’s latest economic threat against Iran is aimed at diverting American public attention from the country’s domestic financial crisis, warning that continued reliance on failed policies would only produce further setbacks.

Tehran - BORNA - Araghchi made the remarks in a post on X while sharing a CNN report on the US government’s $40 trillion debt.

“Threatening to ‘launch an economic operation’ against Iran is, in reality, an attempt to divert American public opinion from domestic financial crises — namely unprecedented debt levels and soaring interest costs in the United States,” Araghchi wrote.

He warned that persisting with what he described as failed policies would only lead to further failures and deepen hostility among Iranians toward the United States.

“Insisting on continuing failed policies will only bring more failures and generate hostility among Iranians,” he said.

Araghchi also criticized what he called US “economic terrorism,” saying it poses a threat beyond Iran.

“US economic terrorism threatens the global economy and the national sovereignty of countries around the world,” he said.
