Iran, Armenia Sign Nine Cooperation Agreements on First Day of Pezeshkian’s Visit
Tehran - BORNA - Mohsen Haji-Mirzaei said on the sidelines of the trip: “Iran and Armenia may be two countries with different languages and cultures, but we share one civilization. In a recent survey, 85 percent of the Armenian people expressed a positive view of Iran. Even during Israel’s 12-day war against Iran, many in Armenia followed the issue closely and welcomed Iran’s victory.”
Haji-Mirzaei added that the President’s program included meetings with Armenian officials, a gathering with the Iranian community in Armenia to discuss their concerns, and a visit to the historic Blue Mosque in Yerevan. He noted that President Pezeshkian will also meet with Armenia’s Prime Minister, where the nine cooperation documents will be formally signed.
He emphasized the importance of the participation of a delegation of Iranian business leaders in the visit, highlighting their discussions with Armenia’s private sector. Trade talks will also take place with both the Armenian President and Prime Minister, focusing on enhancing economic cooperation.
The Chief of Staff described the joint statement between the two countries as one of the key outcomes of this trip, noting that Iran and Armenia are committed to developing trade, implementing barter mechanisms, and expanding border activities. While bilateral trade grew last year, he stressed that more progress is needed.
Haji-Mirzaei also underlined that the Caucasus region should not become an arena for foreign powers, stating: “The countries of the region are capable of resolving their own issues. With stronger economic and political cooperation, we hope to see greater regional development and closer relations among neighboring states.”
