Tehran - BORNA - Speaking on Tuesday on the sidelines of the 4th Meeting of the ECO Interior Ministers in Tehran, President Pezeshkian met with Syed Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan’s Minister of Interior. He described the relations between the two countries as “warm and exceptional,” adding that the foundation of Iran–Pakistan ties is built on brotherhood and mutual trust.
Iranian president said: “Scientific, cultural, economic, political, and security cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad can serve as a model for other nations,” the President said. “Expanding these areas of engagement will further strengthen the bonds between our two peoples.”
Highlighting the deep historical and religious ties between the Iranian and Pakistani nations, Pezeshkian said: “We regard the people of Pakistan as our brothers and are pleased with the close and friendly relations between the two countries. I hope your presence in Tehran and the holding of this meeting will accelerate the implementation of previous agreements and yield tangible results.”
Referring to ongoing tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s readiness to contribute to resolving disputes and promoting dialogue: “We believe that all efforts should focus on reducing tensions and avoiding any form of confrontation, as this is a direct instruction from the Prophet of Islam (PBUH). Now more than ever, Muslim countries must uphold unity and brotherhood and stand firm against their common enemies.”

Naqvi recalled President Pezeshkian’s recent visit to Pakistan, describing bilateral cooperation between the two interior ministries as being at its best level: “We hope the agreements reached will soon lead to concrete and practical outcomes. Border cooperation and joint counter-terrorism measures have progressed significantly.”
The Pakistani minister identified terrorism and illegal migration as common challenges for both countries, noting that constructive collaboration has already produced positive results.
He added: “We are also engaged in productive dialogue with the Afghan government and seek a peaceful resolution of differences through diplomacy. Regional tensions must not be allowed to escalate.”
