Commander lauds effective role of Basij in Iran's progress
Tehran - BORNA - In a press conference held for the annual Basij Week on Tuesday on the sidlines of the Second Hope Media Cup underway in Tehran, Brigadier General Maroufi portrayed the Basij as a fundamentally popular entity that has dedicated itself to public service, national defense, and the consolidation of national sovereignty.
The occasion, he said, serves to honor both Basij members and the Iranian nation, with this year's agenda featuring the inauguration of construction projects and the rollout of knowledge-based systems to demonstrate its ongoing role in national development.
Paying tribute to the founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini (RA), Maroufi underscored the Basij's deep-rooted historical foundations.
He said that the organization's ethos is intrinsically linked to the tenets of the Ahl al-Bayt and the sacrifices of Ashura, drawing a parallel between the selflessness of Imam Hussain (AS) and the Basij's unwavering presence across critical fronts, including the imposed war, natural disasters, and national security.
The commander emphasized the institution's overarching commitment to public service, which transcends political, ethnic, or religious considerations, manifesting in its responses to crises ranging from military conflicts to devastating floods and earthquakes.
Maroufi elaborated on the organization's strategic framework, which is structured around five core endeavors namely the jihad of clarification, scientific and technological advancement, economic development, selfless public service, and the cultivation of hope.
He detailed the Basij's collaborative initiatives in addressing national challenges, including energy optimization, deprivation alleviation, large-scale reconstruction efforts, and the enhancement of critical infrastructure.
Outlining the schedule for Basij Week, which will begin on November 21, Maroufi termed the Basij to be the strong fortress of the Iranian nation.
A comprehensive agenda of several hundred events is planned nationwide, encompassing cultural tributes, scientific conferences, and practical service initiatives such as the deployment of field hospitals in multiple provinces, he said.
The second National Hope Media Cup kicked off in Tehran on Tuesday with over 700 media professionals in attendance, a major gathering designed to spotlight the nation's progress and scientific achievements.
