Araghchi: All Governments Responsible for Upholding Rule of Law
The Iranian Foreign Minister met with his Dutch counterpart, David van Weil, emphasizing that no government should remain indifferent to belligerent, law-breaking behavior.

Tehran - BORNA - Seyed Abbas Araghchi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who is in the Netherlands to attend the 30th Session of the Conference of States Parties to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), met and held discussions with David van Weil, the Dutch Foreign Minister, this afternoon.

During the meeting, Iran-Netherlands bilateral relations and regional and international developments were discussed and exchanged.

In light of the recent visit of a senior Dutch Foreign Ministry official to Tehran, both sides agreed that the commitment to resume political and consular consultation meetings is a significant step toward strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Call for Global Commitment to Law

Referring to the rapid changes in the international arena and the dominance of an aggressive unilateralism over international relations, the Iranian Foreign Minister stressed the responsibility of all governments to help promote the rule of law and avoid complicity or indifference towards law-breaking and bullying behaviors.

Seeking Accountability for Chemical Weapons Crimes

During the meeting, which was also attended by Kamal Hosseinpour, the representative of Sardasht in the Islamic Consultative Assembly, the Foreign Minister referenced the suffering of the innocent victims of chemical weapons used by the Saddam regime against Iran, particularly in the city of Sardasht.

He emphasized the responsibility of European countries—including the Netherlands and Germany—that were directly or indirectly involved in equipping and developing the Iraqi regime's chemical weapons program, and called for the serious cooperation of these countries in independent judicial investigations regarding the natural and legal persons involved in the Saddam regime’s war crimes against Iranians.
