At Munich Conference, China Urges U.S. to Act with
The Chinese Foreign Minister stated at the Munich Security Conference that the current situation in Iran affects the entire Middle East region, urging all parties to avoid new conflicts.

Tehran - BORNA - Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told the session: "The United States must exercise 'caution' in its engagements with Iran. This situation directly impacts peace in the Middle East."

During his speech, Wang emphasized that disputes must be resolved through mediation and conflicts addressed through dialogue. "Instead of creating new conflicts, the parties should act with caution," Wang stated.

Ukraine: Roots of the Crisis Must Be Eradicated

The Chinese Foreign Minister stressed the necessity of addressing the root causes of the Ukraine crisis. "Europe should not look at the Ukraine conflict from the outside; it must be present at the negotiating table. Beijing supports the commencement of dialogue between Europe and Russia regarding Ukraine, but the EU must present its own initiatives to resolve the crisis," he noted.

Wang clarified that China is not a direct party to the Ukraine conflict but advocates for peaceful negotiations. "The final solution does not lie in Beijing's hands. Our position is clear: this conflict must be resolved through dialogue and consultation. We only promote peace and negotiation."

He added: "Europe must not watch from the sidelines. Last year, Europe remained an observer during talks with Russia. Europe has the right to participate in these negotiations. I have said before that Europe should be at the table, not on the menu. We now see that Europe has found the courage to talk with Russia. This is good, and we support it."

Gaza: Implementation of the Two-State Solution

China's top diplomat also addressed the situation in Gaza, stating that the war must end and Palestinians must be granted their own state. "Achieving a ceasefire and the reconstruction of Gaza requires continuous efforts to implement the two-state solution."

Global Governance and the United Nations

"Without the United Nations, the world would return to the law of the jungle, where the strong prey on the weak," Wang Yi continued. He described China and the EU as partners rather than systemic or strategic rivals.

He called for the reform and improvement of global governance amidst worldwide turmoil: "Our priority is the restoration of the UN system. The establishment of the UN was a significant result of the victory in the world anti-fascist war."

Relations with Europe

Addressing China-EU ties, Wang noted: "Today, our daily trade volume exceeds the total annual trade volume from the first year of our diplomatic relations. Why should China suddenly be labeled a systemic rival to the EU? I believe this is a very negative mindset and serves no purpose. This narrative is toxic to the future development of China-EU relations."

Asia-Pacific and Criticism of Japan

Regarding the Asia-Pacific region, Wang Yi stated: "I do not believe the situation in Asia-Pacific is becoming increasingly tense. In fact, Asia is perhaps the only region maintaining general peace."

However, he sharply criticized remarks by the Japanese Prime Minister concerning Taiwan. "The Prime Minister of Japan publicly stated that Taiwan could potentially be a 'survival-threatening situation' that might trigger collective self-defense. This is the first time in 80 years a Japanese Prime Minister has made such remarks. These statements directly violate China's territorial sovereignty and challenge the fact that Taiwan was returned to China."

Wang Yi further contrasted Germany and Japan’s post-war paths: "After WWII, Germany conducted a thorough audit of Nazi crimes and passed laws banning Nazi ideology. However, Japan still pays tribute to Class-A war criminals. This suggests that Japan still harbors long-standing ambitions regarding Taiwan, and the specter of militarism continues to haunt the country. The lessons of history are not far from us. If you return to that old path, you will reach a dead end. If you gamble again, the loss will be faster and more devastating."
