Iranian Parliamentary Delegation Meets Saudi Shura Council Vice Speaker
Tehran - BORNA - The two sides underscored the need to enhance relations through the activation of parliamentary diplomacy.
Mohammad-Reza Noshabadi, Director General for Parliamentary Affairs at Iran’s Foreign Ministry, who attended the meeting, said the talks were held in a friendly and cordial atmosphere. He noted that both sides exchanged views on political, economic and parliamentary issues and emphasized the importance of cooperation and consultation on regional and international matters.
Noshabadi added that the two parties highlighted the numerous commonalities and shared interests of the Iranian and Saudi peoples, stressing the importance of closer interaction between the two legislatures. They also called for activating parliamentary diplomacy and utilizing the capacities of friendship groups and specialized commissions.
He further described as significant the shared positions of the two countries in confronting what he called the expansionist policies of the Israeli regime, as well as Saudi Arabia’s condemnation of the regime’s aggression against the Islamic Republic during the 12-day war. He said these positions create an opportunity for greater convergence between Tehran and Riyadh in adopting coordinated stances against foreign powers and preventing further adventurism by Israel.
ISNA reported that the Iranian delegation also met with the chairman of the Saudi Shura Council’s Foreign Policy Committee as part of its engagements with Saudi parliamentary officials.
In that meeting, the two sides emphasized the need for political and parliamentary cooperation and the adoption of coordinated positions by the two countries on regional developments in order to prevent tensions and what they described as adventurous behavior by the Israeli regime and certain foreign governments.
The Iranian delegation also attended a public session of the Saudi Shura Council.
