Iravani: US Vessel Seizures Violate International Law and Constitute Acts of Aggression
Tehran - BORNA - Amir Saeid Iravani, speaking at a press conference on the sidelines of a Security Council meeting regarding the Strait of Hormuz, said: "The United States has imposed a so-called maritime blockade and is seizing Iranian commercial vessels in international waters. These US actions violate international law and the UN Charter and, according to General Assembly Resolution 3314, are considered acts of aggression."
He continued: "The US is acting like pirates and terrorists. It seizes ships by force and takes crew members hostage. None of those who claim to be concerned about international navigation dare to condemn this act of terrorism in today's meeting."
Iravani clarified: "The actions of the United States against Iranian commercial vessels bear the hallmarks of piracy and hostage-taking. With these illegal actions, the US is threatening maritime security and the freedom of navigation."
Highlighting that "Iran has always upheld maritime security and freedom of navigation in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Sea of Oman," he noted: "For decades, the Islamic Republic has fully fulfilled its responsibilities as a coastal state. However, since February 28, the United States and Israel have waged an illegal war against Iran and taken actions that have disrupted maritime security in violation of the UN Charter."
He concluded by emphasizing: "The actions of the US and Israel have posed a serious threat to regional peace and security."
