Pezeshkian: Continued cooperation with IAEA contingent on correcting double standards toward Iran
President Masoud Pezeshkian, referencing the long-standing, principled cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), stated that continuation of this cooperation is contingent upon rectifying the Agency’s double standards toward Iran’s nuclear file. He also warned that any repetition of aggression would be met with a stronger and more regret-inducing response.

Tehran - BORNA - Masoud Pezeshkian and Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, held a telephone conversation on Wednesday evening, during which they discussed the latest international developments—particularly the 12-day imposed war against Iran—as well as prospects for future relations between Iran and the European Union.

During the call, the President of Iran emphasized Tehran’s principled stance on constructive engagement and effective dialogue with the world, reiterating Iran’s commitment to peace, stability, and regional and international security, especially in the current new era.

Elaborating on the criminal acts of the Zionist regime and its destabilizing role in global peace and security, Pezeshkian noted: “Our country came under aggression by the Zionist regime and the United States while it was on the path of dialogue and negotiation. When met with Iran’s decisive response, they were compelled to request a ceasefire. Without U.S. coordination and approval, Israel could not have carried out such an act.”

In response to concerns raised by the President of the European Council regarding the suspension of Iran’s cooperation with the IAEA, Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to dialogue, diplomacy, mutual respect, and international legal frameworks, and described the recent decision by Iran’s Parliament as a reaction to the biased and unprofessional conduct of the IAEA Director General.

He further stated that: “Failure to uphold impartiality in reporting, ignoring the blatant attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities, and silence in the face of international law violations are among the factors that have cast doubt on the IAEA’s credibility, leading to the adoption of this legislation by the Iranian Parliament.”

He added: “Naturally, one of the basic expectations of member states in organizations such as the IAEA is to enjoy balanced access to the rights and benefits of membership. Otherwise, membership—or non-membership—in such institutions holds little value or justification.”

Reiterating Iran’s previous cooperation with the Agency, Pezeshkian stressed: “Continued collaboration depends on ending discriminatory behavior toward Iran’s nuclear file. Moreover, any future act of aggression will be met with a more decisive and regrettable response.”

The Iranian President expressed appreciation for the European Council President’s diplomatic efforts and emphasized Iran’s readiness to expand ties with the European Union and resolve existing issues through constructive and respectful dialogue.

During the call, Antonio Costa also reaffirmed the EU’s desire to pursue diplomatic solutions to outstanding issues and its willingness to expand cooperation with Iran. He stated: “I fully agree with you that international organizations must avoid any form of double standards. The European Union holds deep respect for the history, civilization, and culture of the Iranian people and is fully prepared for dialogue and engagement.”

Costa also offered his condolences for the Iranian lives lost in recent Israeli attacks and said: “The European Union condemns Israel’s human rights violations in Gaza and emphasizes the need to end the war, facilitate humanitarian aid, and ensure effective support for the Palestinian people.”
