Pezeshkian: We Can Have a Common Currency in the Region to Help Economic Development
Iran’s President, in a meeting with the Interior Minister of Tajikistan, referred to the necessity of maintaining and strengthening unity and cohesion among regional countries, especially Islamic nations, stating: "Based on religious and cultural connections in the region, we can create a situation where communications are established easily and obstacles are removed. We can even have a common currency in the region to help economic development."

Tehran - BORNA - President Masoud Pezeshkian met with Mr. Ramzon Rahimzoda, the Interior Minister of Tajikistan, on Tuesday morning, October 28, 2025, on the sidelines of the 4th ECO Interior Ministers meeting. The President emphasized sustainable regional solidarity, security, and development. He said: "The people of Iran and Tajikistan share a common culture, customs, and traditions, and it is necessary that our bilateral relations expand continuously in all fields."

Security as Infrastructure for Relations

The President highlighted the importance of security as the essential infrastructure for the development of exchanges and interactions. He specified: "By developing friendly relations, we must strengthen the protection of the borders and countries of the region and effectively confront smugglers and any action that disrupts security." He added that a specific framework is needed to facilitate and expand cooperation among traders, elites, and the people of the region in cultural, economic, scientific, and medical fields.

Pezeshkian reiterated the importance of unity among regional countries, especially Muslim nations: "Based on religious and cultural connections in the region, we can create a situation where communications are established easily and obstacles are removed. We can even have a common currency in the region to help economic development. Unfortunately, foreigners are trying to prevent the establishment of these good relations and are pitting Muslims and the nations of the region against each other in various ways; if we are united, we will be strong, and otherwise, we will become weak."

The President concluded by reciting verses from the Persian poets Hafez and Saadi, noting: "These poems are intertwined with the soul of us humans, especially Persian speakers. The people of Tajikistan are known for culture, literature, and art, and by relying on our shared culture and history, we can build a brilliant future for our nations. Please convey my warm greetings to His Excellency Emomali Rahmon."

Tajikistan's Response

The Interior Minister of Tajikistan, Ramzon Rahimzoda, emphasized that providing security is crucial as a basis for expanding economic relations, stating: "The two countries must cooperate closely with each other in the fight against terrorism and smuggling."

Referring to the cultural ties between Tajikistan and Iran, Rahimzoda recalled: "We consider Tehran our home, and our relations must expand in all fields. Your words are very sweet, and the people of Tajikistan love you very much."
