Three Leading Iranian Judokas Awarded 8th Dan Rank by International Judo Federation
The International Judo Federation (IJF) has officially approved the 8th Dan black belt ranking for three prominent Iranian judo figures—a rare and prestigious honor in the global martial arts community.

Tehran - BORNA - According to the Iranian Judo Federation, achieving the 8th Dan in judo is more than a personal milestone—it represents decades of dedication, technical mastery, teaching, and leadership at the highest levels. Globally, only a limited number of judokas have ever attained this elite status.

During the annual IJF Congress, held on June 11, 2025, in Budapest, three renowned Iranian judo veterans were officially recognized with the 8th Dan rank, with the endorsement of Marius Vizer, President of the IJF.

One of the recipients was Arash Miresmaeili, former world champion and current president of the Iranian Judo Federation. After fulfilling all requirements and undergoing the formal IJF process, Miresmaeili received direct approval from President Vizer, marking a historic achievement for Iranian judo.

In addition to Miresmaeili, Mohammad Keyhan, a veteran coach and mentor to multiple world champions, and Reza Madani, a respected elder and pioneer of Iranian judo, were also awarded the 8th Dan recognition.

Both Keyhan and Madani are among the founding pillars of judo in Iran and have long played influential roles in developing the sport nationwide.

These prestigious acknowledgments not only elevate Iran’s standing in the international judo landscape but also highlight the country's enduring commitment to excellence, perseverance, and the cultivation of martial arts values.
