Mobarakeh Steel Company Become First Iranian Firm to Receive International Certifications for Greenhouse Gas Emission Management and Product Carbon Footprint
In today’s world, more than ever before, the climate crisis and the urgent need to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions have become critical global concerns

. Heavy industries, particularly the steel sector, are at the forefront of environmental responsibilities. Mobarakeh Steel Company (MSC), while already ahead of many global steel producers through its use of electric arc furnace technology for molten steel production and direct reduction processes — as opposed to the more carbon-intensive blast furnace methods — fully recognizes that sheer production volume or product quality alone no longer define a company’s global standing. Today, long-term competitiveness depends largely on a company’s commitment to sustainable development and responsible manufacturing practices.

In this context, Mobarakeh Steel has marked a historic milestone by becoming the first Iranian company to obtain the international ISO 14064-1 certification for GHG emissions management and ISO 14067 certification for product carbon footprint assessment. This achievement positions MSC among global sustainability leaders such as ArcelorMittal and SSAB, and significantly enhances the company’s long-term access to export markets — especially the European Union. As of 2026, access to such markets will effectively require these certifications.

Beyond its international significance, this success reflects MSC’s organizational maturity and leadership in green governance and social responsibility. Achieving these certifications was the result of extensive cross-departmental collaboration under the supervision of SGS Singapore, a globally recognized auditing and certification body. It also signals that Iranian industry, when driven by technical expertise, organizational discipline, and managerial will, can take a leading role in regional climate action.

Looking ahead, MSC is committed to reducing its carbon emissions by 30% by 2031 (Iranian year 1410) and reaching carbon neutrality by 2051 (Iranian year 1430). The company’s roadmap includes investments in renewable energy, green hydrogen technology, and carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects. These recent certifications, therefore, are not merely technical achievements — they represent a launchpad toward a greener, more competitive, and more sustainable future for MSC and Iran’s steel industry. A future where responsible production is the key to survival and progress.
